Iran and Russia's foreign ministers hold a phone call to discuss the situation in the Middle East.

On April 2, local time, Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi and Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov held a phone call and exchanged views on bilateral relations and the development of the situation in the Middle East. Araghchi emphasized that Iran has the legitimate right to defend national sovereignty, national security, and territorial integrity, and strongly condemned attacks by the US and Israel on Iranian infrastructure, including universities, bridges, and research centers. Regarding the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, Araghchi said that this insecurity is caused by military actions by the US and Israel. He pointed out that the passage of ships from non-belligerent countries is conducted in coordination with Iran’s armed forces. Lavrov reiterated that Russia opposes the continued military actions by the US and Israel against Iran. He said that Moscow is maintaining ongoing contact and consultations with regional countries in order to cool tensions. He emphasized that all parties should return to the path of resolving the crisis through diplomatic and political means. In addition, he briefed Araghchi on the initiatives and plans proposed by Russia to ease regional tensions and manage the crisis. The two sides agreed to continue consultations and coordination on bilateral, regional, and international affairs. (CCTV News)
