Base’s official announcement states that its first independent network upgrade, Base Azul, will be activated on the mainnet on May 13. This upgrade is intended to enhance Base’s security, performance, and developer experience. Its key improvements include: first, activating the Multiproofs mechanism, which combines TEE and ZK proof systems to drive Base’s evolution toward “Stage 2” decentralization, and is expected to reduce the withdrawal cycle to just one day; second, integrating a performance-oriented client stack, making base-reth-node the only execution client, and introducing a new consensus client base-consensus based on Kona to accelerate the achievement of a throughput target of 1 gigagas/s; third, adopting the latest Ethereum execution layer specification (Osaka) to optimize the developer experience.
