honestly just realized how confusing 4 inches actually is when someone mentions it. like, how long is four inches really? turns out it's about 10.16 cm, which still doesn't help lol. but then i started comparing it to stuff around me and it clicked. your palm width? basically 4 inches. a credit card is like 3.4 inches, so just slightly bigger. even a tv remote button section is roughly that length. suddenly it made sense. the wild part is most people think 4 inches sounds bigger than it actually looks in real life. when you finally see it, you're like 'oh that's it?' a dollar bill is 6.14 inches long, so 4 inches is just over half of that if you need another reference. pretty useful to know when you're buying stuff online or trying to picture something without a ruler. on an actual ruler it's dead simple - just count from 0 to 4 and that's your space. takes up like a third of a foot-long ruler. so yeah, how long is four inches? it's that small-to-medium length you see everywhere but never really think about. once you attach it to real objects instead of just a number, it sticks with you way better.
