Counties are connected with gigabit networks, towns are covered with 5G. Our country's information and communication infrastructure has made new progress.

This morning, the State Council Information Office held a press conference to introduce the development of industry and information technology in the first quarter of 2026.
At the press conference, relevant officials introduced the status of our country’s information and communication infrastructure construction:
First, network capabilities are stronger. As of the end of March, the total number of 5G base stations nationwide has reached 4.96M, with 10G PON ports capable of gigabit network services reaching 32.01 million.
Pilot deployments of 10-gigabit optical networks have been carried out in 168 communities, factories, and parks across 86 cities nationwide, and 5G-A (5G evolution network) has covered 330 cities.
Mobile Internet of Things is thriving, with terminal users reaching 2.95B households.
Second, network coverage is broader. Up to now, the entire country has achieved “county-level gigabit coverage and township-level 5G coverage,” with administrative villages achieving 100% broadband access and over 95% 5G access, and border management and trade agencies achieving 100% 4G/5G network coverage.
Network deep coverage has been achieved in 269k key locations nationwide, with 654k kilometers of highways and railways and 316 metro lines maintaining continuous network coverage.
Third, network applications are better. As of now, 5G and gigabit optical networks have been integrated into 91 of the 97 major categories of the national economy.
