On the evening of April 2, local time, the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement in response to the security warning released by the U.S. Embassy in Iraq that day. The statement said that, given the seriousness of the current situation, some groups or individuals may go against the direction of Iraq’s policies, take unilateral actions, or use their positions to carry out conduct that does not comply with Iraq’s official policies. Such individual actions, or actions initiated by a small number of groups, are illegal and in no way represent the position of the Iraqi government or its institutions. The statement pointed out that cases in which individual personnel in countries around the world abuse their authority are not sufficient to constitute an overall criticism or to justify attributing individual conduct to the government or any institution. Iraq said it was “surprised” by the U.S. statement. (CCTV News)
