Just realized a lot of people are still confused about updating their SASSA banking details and phone numbers, especially with payments coming up. Figured I'd share what I learned because honestly, the process is different depending on which grant you're getting.

So if you're on permanent grants like old age or disability, you can't do this stuff online – you actually have to go in person to your nearest SASSA office. Bring your original ID, a copy, and proof of your new bank account (bank statement from the last three months works). They'll give you a form to fill out, verify everything with biometrics, and then send it to the bank. Takes up to 21 working days to process, and here's the thing – if you want it to take effect next month, you need to submit before the 15th. Miss that deadline and you're waiting another cycle.

The SRD grant is way easier though. Everything's online through the official SASSA SRD portal. You enter your ID number, they send you a secure link via SMS, and you can update your bank details right there. Same rule applies though – the account has to be in your name only, no joint accounts.

For changing your phone number on SRD, same deal – use their contact details portal, enter your ID and application ID, put in your new number, and they'll send you an OTP to verify. If the online thing doesn't work, just call the helpline at 0800 60 10 or visit an office. Honestly, with all the fake websites out there, I'd rather go in person or use the official link anyway.

Anyone else had issues with the status check taking forever? Wondering if I'm doing something wrong or if it's just how slow the system is sometimes.
