Just realized I needed to update my banking details for my SASSA grant and it's actually not as complicated as I thought, depending on which grant you're on. If you're getting the R350 SRD grant, the whole thing is online through their portal—you just need your ID number, they'll send you an SMS link, and you're done in minutes. Way easier than before.

But if you're on a permanent grant like disability or old age, yeah, you gotta go to the SASSA office in person. Bring your original ID, a bank statement (less than 3 months old), and fill out their payment method change form. They send it to the bank and it takes like 21 days to process. Pro tip: submit before the 15th of the month or your old account gets used for another cycle.

Also don't forget to update your phone number while you're at it—especially if you're on SRD since they send verification codes by SMS. Use their official portal, not some random website trying to help you update banking details. Too many scams floating around. If the online stuff doesn't work, just call 0800 60 10 11 and they'll walk you through it. Honestly the phone option is sometimes safer anyway, even if it takes longer.
