Just realized I needed to sort out my SASSA banking details update before the deadline hits. Turns out the process is different depending on whether you're on a permanent grant or the SRD R370 relief.

If you're getting permanent grants like old age or disability, you actually have to go in person to your nearest SASSA office to change your banking details. Can't do it online, which is annoying but fair enough for verification. You'll need your ID, proof of the new bank account (bank statement not older than 3 months works), and they'll process it there. Just remember the account has to be solely in your name, no joint accounts. Takes about 21 working days to verify, so if you want it to show up next month, get it done before the 15th of this month.

For SRD grant holders though, it's all online which is way easier. Head to the official SASSA SRD website, enter your ID number, and they'll send you a secure SMS link. Click it and update your bank details there. Same rule applies though, account must be in your name.

Changing your cellphone number? For permanent grants, call the helpline at 0800 60 10 11 or just visit the office. For SRD, use the contact portal on their website, enter your ID and application ID, put in your new number, and they'll send you an OTP to verify. One heads up though, there's apparently sketchy fake websites out there trying to scam people, so always use the official SASSA links.

If you're stuck with the online portal or need help checking your SASSA status check, the helpline or in-person visit is still your best bet. Might take a bit longer but at least you know it's legit.
