CPC Central Committee Political Bureau member and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held a telephone call with German Foreign Minister Waddufur by appointment on the 2nd. The two sides exchanged views on the situation in the Middle East as key priorities.

Waddufur said that the current situation in Iran is grave and complex, causing serious impacts on the global economy, energy, and food security. Ending the conflict as soon as possible accords with the common interests of the international community. Germany supports the United Nations in playing its due role, attaches importance to the five-point initiative issued by China and Pakistan on restoring peace and stability in the Gulf and Middle East regions, and is willing to continue communication and cooperation with the Chinese side.

Wang Yi expounded on the Chinese side’s principled position, saying that the US and Israel’s launching of military strikes against Iran without authorization by the UN Security Council clearly violates international law. The sovereignty and security of Gulf countries should be respected, and civilians and non-military targets must be given the necessary protection. The safety of shipping lanes, as well as energy and infrastructure, should also be guaranteed. China and Germany, as responsible major countries, should uphold an objective and fair stance, play a constructive role, and help push for the fighting to cease as soon as possible to restore peace and stability in the region.

The two sides also exchanged views on China-Germany relations, and agreed to implement the outcomes of Premier (Chancellor) Merz’s visit to China, strengthen strategic communication, enhance strategic mutual trust, and promote greater development of the China-Germany comprehensive strategic partnership.
