According to reports from Iran on March 14 local time, earlier that day, the U.S. military carried out airstrikes on Iran’s oil export hub, Khark Island. Sources said that during the attack, more than 15 explosions were heard on the island. The U.S. airstrikes targeted the island’s air defense systems, a naval base, an airport watchtower, and a helicopter hangar on the continental shelf. The sources also said that thick smoke rose from Khark Island, but the oil infrastructure was not damaged. The sources said that U.S. President Trump’s claim that “Khark Island’s defensive facilities were destroyed” is incorrect, and emphasized that the island’s air defense system was back online about an hour after the U.S. launched the attack.
