Tech House News March 13th, According to reports from the tech media Windows Central today, Microsoft will push the “Auto Super Resolution” (Auto SR) feature to the ASUS ROG Xbox Ally X handheld console next month, which can enhance gaming performance through AI technology while maintaining image clarity.

It is introduced that Auto SR technology is similar to NVIDIA DLSS and AMD FSR, with the core idea of first running the game at a low resolution, then using various methods to upscale to a higher resolution, thereby achieving higher frame rates while preserving image quality.

At the same time, after enabling this feature on the Xbox Ally X, the NPU (Neural Processing Unit) inside the Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor will work, capable of real-time upscaling game images at lower resolutions like 720P to 1080P or higher, with performance improvements of up to 30%.

However, Auto SR is fundamentally different from DLSS and FSR; the former operates at the operating system level, while the latter requires developers to adapt within the game, meaning Auto SR can be compatible with most existing games without special adaptation.

According to Microsoft’s documentation, Auto SR only supports DX11 and DX12 games, so older games using DX9 may not be able to use this feature. Additionally, this feature relies on NPU, and the basic version of the Xbox Ally cannot use it.
