The U.S. military may seize an island to force Iran to open the Strait of Hormuz.
The Wall Street Journal reported on the 19th, citing sources, that the United States is deploying additional troops to the Middle East and may seize Iran’s key oil export hub to force Iran to open the Strait of Hormuz. The report said that approximately 2,200 members of the U.S. Marine Corps 31st Expeditionary Force are aboard amphibious assault ships heading from Japan to the Middle East, expected to arrive in about a week. The U.S. may use this force to occupy Halek Island as leverage to pressure Iran into opening the Strait of Hormuz. (Xinhua News Agency)
