Trump's speech was mockingly criticized by American public opinion: lying, rehashing old arguments, logical confusion, wasting time
(Source: Zhijian News)
According to Xinhua News Agency, U.S. President Trump delivered a nationwide televised speech on the evening of April 1, claiming himself that there was a “quick, decisive, overwhelming victory” in the military actions against Iran.
Trump originally intended to use this speech to “sell” his achievements in the Iran military operation, ease domestic public panic, and stabilize energy and financial markets, but was quickly met with a variety of criticisms from U.S. public opinion:

— Helen Cooper, a reporter for The New York Times: Trump’s speech content was “comnpletely unoriginal,” “a rehash of his social media posts from the past month.”

— British TV commentator Bushra Sheikh: This speech “wasted our 22 minutes in vain.”
— Zolan Kanno-Youngs, a reporter for The New York Times: Throughout the entire conflict, “Trump kept making contradictory statements,” and tonight “sent a double message”—on one hand claiming he would launch a fierce strike on Iran, and on the other trying to reassure voters worried about the impact of military action on the U.S. economy.

— Democratic U.S. Senator Chris Van Hollen: “Trump lied to us as usual. Over two weeks ago, he claimed ‘we won,’ but why are we still stuck in (the Middle East)? What will happen next? The only thing we can expect is more lies from Trump.”

— Social media users commented during Trump’s speech live broadcast: “He’s lying as soon as he opens his mouth.”
— Social media users commented during Trump’s speech live broadcast: “This is the stupidest speech on April Fool’s Day.”
— Former Republican U.S. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene: Trump’s speech didn’t mention any measures to ease people’s livelihood pressures; “all we hear is war, war, war.”
— An article titled “Perhaps Trump Should Not Have Made This Speech” published on The Atlantic magazine’s website: Trump’s speech instead raised more doubts, “perhaps the public is more worried now than a few days ago.”

— Former U.S. State Department official Melissa Tufanian: Trump did not provide a “clear plan or timetable” regarding the conflict, and Americans might feel “more confused” after listening, “no one will think we are safer or more secure because of this.”
— Harlan Ullman, senior advisor at the Atlantic Council: Trump’s speech was “embarrassing, frustrating, incoherent,” and this speech could instead be seen as “a victory declaration for Iran.”

— Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer wrote on social media: Trump’s speech was “rambling, illogical, very sad,” “what he did in Iran will be regarded as one of the most serious policy failures in our country’s history.”
