According to Xinhua News Agency, U.S. President Trump delivered a nationwide televised speech on the evening of April 1, claiming himself that there was a “quick, decisive, overwhelming victory” in the military actions against Iran.

Trump originally intended to use this speech to “sell” his achievements in the Iran military operation, ease domestic public panic, and stabilize energy and financial markets, but was quickly met with a variety of criticisms from U.S. public opinion:

— Zolan Kanno-Youngs, a reporter for The New York Times: Throughout the entire conflict, “Trump kept making contradictory statements,” and tonight “sent a double message”—on one hand claiming he would launch a fierce strike on Iran, and on the other trying to reassure voters worried about the impact of military action on the U.S. economy.

— Democratic U.S. Senator Chris Van Hollen: “Trump lied to us as usual. Over two weeks ago, he claimed ‘we won,’ but why are we still stuck in (the Middle East)? What will happen next? The only thing we can expect is more lies from Trump.”

— Harlan Ullman, senior advisor at the Atlantic Council: Trump’s speech was “embarrassing, frustrating, incoherent,” and this speech could instead be seen as “a victory declaration for Iran.”
