Just figured out the whole SASSA banking details thing - thought I'd share since so many people ask if they can change it online. Short answer: depends on your grant type. If you're on the SRD grant, yeah, you can do it all online through the portal which is pretty straightforward. But if you're on permanent grants like old age or disability, nope - you gotta go in person to your local SASSA office. They'll have you fill out a form and submit your ID and bank statement. Takes up to 21 working days to process once you submit it.
For the cellphone number updates, similar deal. SRD folks can update it online using the contact portal - they'll send you an OTP to verify. Permanent grant recipients should either visit the office or call the helpline at 0800 60 10 11 for guidance. One thing to remember: the account has to be in your name only, no joint accounts or anything. And if you're wondering whether you can actually change your SASSA banking details online, it really comes down to which grant you're on. The system's designed differently for each one. The key is getting it done before the 15th of the month if you want it to take effect the next cycle, otherwise you're waiting another month. Definitely use the official SASSA portal if you're doing it online - there's apparently some dodgy fake sites out there trying to scam people.
