CITIC Securities: Optimistic about coal prices in the second quarter; the sector is expected to initiate a new round of market trends

CITIC Securities pointed out that, based on the tracked sample of listed coal companies, the year-on-year change in the combined net profit in the first quarter of 2026 may be up by 2.2%. Overall, the thermal coal companies may see a slight year-on-year increase, while the metallurgical coal companies as a whole are expected to improve rapidly year-on-year. CITIC Securities is optimistic about coal price performance in the second quarter. Even if the conflict in the Middle East eases, the restoration of energy supply will still take time. Coupled with the release of demand during the Northern Hemisphere summer peak season, domestic and international coal prices in the middle-to-l latter part of the second quarter may form a resonance. The effect of rising coal and chemical prices is also expected to be fully reflected in the second quarter. Once the market forms new catalysts for coal price expectations, the sector is expected to kick off a new round of market activity. (People’s Financial News)
