US media: Trump says he is "deeply negotiating" with Iran and was once close to holding direct talks

ME News message. On April 6 (UTC+8), U.S. President Trump said in a telephone interview that the United States is conducting “in-depth negotiations” with Iran and that there is a good chance of reaching an agreement before Tuesday’s deadline. “The chance of reaching an agreement is very high, but if they don’t reach one, I will destroy everything there,” he said. When asked whether he is worried about harming innocent civilians, Trump said he believes that the Iranian people who oppose their own government would support such strikes to weaken the regime.

In an approximately 8-minute phone interview, Trump said that his envoys, Wetkopf and Kushner, are engaged in intensive talks with the Iranian side. Two sources involved in the negotiations said that communication takes place not only through intermediaries such as Pakistan, Egypt, and Turkey, but also through text messages between Trump’s advisers and Iran’s foreign minister, Aragchi. “Negotiations are going smoothly, but dealing with Iranians is always difficult to reach the finish line,” Trump said. He also said that just a few days ago the two sides were once close to agreeing to hold direct negotiations. “But they said they would meet again in five days. I asked, why five days? I think they’re not serious enough. So I attacked that bridge,” Trump said. (Source: PANews)
