According to a report by the U.S. New York Times on the 5th, the second pilot aboard a U.S. Air Force F-15E fighter that was shot down earlier has been sent to Kuwait for treatment. During the process of rescuing the pilot, the U.S. military destroyed two “stranded” U.S. transport aircraft that were carrying out rescue missions. The report said the pilot searched for more than 24 hours in mountainous terrain for ways to evade Iran, and his personal weaponry consisted of only a handgun. The U.S. military mobilized hundreds of special operations personnel to carry out the rescue; during the rescue, there were exchanges of gunfire with Iranian forces. The report said that the two U.S. transport aircraft were “stranded” after experiencing malfunctions while carrying out the pilot-rescue mission in Iran. The U.S. military then dispatched three new aircraft to continue the rescue mission and destroyed the two malfunctioning transport aircraft. Separately, according to Iran’s Tasnim news agency on the 5th, the Public Relations Department of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said a U.S. aircraft searching for a missing pilot was shot down in Isfahan Province. Iran’s Mehr news agency also reported that a U.S. C-130 transport aircraft was shot down on the 5th. U.S. President Trump said on the 4th that the U.S. military had rescued the second pilot aboard the F-15E fighter that was shot down from Iran. (Xinhua News Agency)
