Iranian official proposes conditions for opening the Strait of Hormuz: first compensate Iran's war losses with past shipping taxes.

People’s Finance News, April 5—On April 5, Mehdi Tabatabaei, deputy director for news and communications at the Iranian presidential office, made a stern statement regarding the regional situation and the issue of passage through the Strait of Hormuz. On social media, Tabatabaei launched a fierce attack on U.S. President Trump and his policies, accusing him of resorting to insults out of “desperation and anger,” and saying that his reckless actions have triggered a full-scale war within the region. Regarding control of the Strait of Hormuz, Tabatabaei said that the Strait would only fully reopen after a new legal framework is established and after using past ship-tax revenues to compensate Iran for all the losses it suffered in previous wars.
