You know, a black swan is not just a rare event — it's an incident that no one expects, but afterward everyone tries to explain in hindsight. The concept was introduced by Nassim Taleb, and it perfectly describes what happens in the crypto market.

In cryptography, black swans work a little differently. The market is still young, volatile, and heavily shaken by external factors. When such an event occurs, prices start dancing, liquidity evaporates, and the entire ecosystem can turn upside down.

Remember what happened with COVID-19 at the end of 2019 — beginning of 2020. The global economy suddenly went into chaos, financial markets collapsed. Or the FTX crash in 2022 — one of the largest exchanges simply went bankrupt, dragging half of the crypto industry down with it. Bitcoin dropped, trust evaporated.

The same happened with Terra and LUNA/UST. The entire ecosystem fell apart in just a few days, investors lost tens of billions. Or when China started banning mining and trading cryptocurrencies — the market reacted with panic sell-offs every time.

I remember in 2021, Bitcoin dropped from $64,000 below $30,000 in just a few weeks. People panicked, withdrew funds, and it seemed like the end of the world was near. But then it turned out to be just another wave.

What’s interesting — during such shocks, liquidity simply disappears. You can’t buy or sell normally, spreads widen, and small investors take losses, while big players accumulate assets at the bottom. Market confidence is shaken, especially if it involves a specific exchange or project.

What can we learn from this? First, never put all your eggs in one basket. Diversify your portfolio, keep some in stablecoins or traditional assets — that’s your safety cushion. Second, pay closer attention to the news, because black swans often stem from major events — bankruptcies, bans, systemic errors.

Risk management isn’t boring; it’s just survival in this market. And remember, even if you can’t predict a black swan, you can prepare for its arrival.
