Immersive Flight Experience: Apple Vision Pro Headset to Welcome "World's Most Advanced Flight Simulator" X-Plane 12
IT Home March 11 News, Tech media 9to5Mac published a blog post yesterday (March 10), reporting that in the visionOS 26.4 update, Apple will introduce the “world’s most advanced flight simulator” X-Plane 12 for the Vision Pro headset.
IT Home note: X-Plane 12 is a professional-grade flight simulation software known for its extreme realism, widely used for entertainment by players and training by professional pilots. It is called “the world’s most advanced flight simulator” and has previously been fully available on Mac, Windows, and Linux platforms.
This groundbreaking experience is mainly thanks to visionOS 26.4’s native support for NVIDIA’s CloudXR 6.0 technology. CloudXR 6.0 is NVIDIA’s cloud extended reality technology, supporting low-latency wireless streaming of complex VR/AR visuals from high-performance PCs or cloud servers to mobile headsets.
The X-Plane development team stated that users only need to download a dedicated companion app from the App Store (coming soon), which will automatically recognize the Apple Vision Pro device. Then, the app will use CloudXR technology to stream gameplay from a PC equipped with an NVIDIA RTX graphics card or from cloud servers directly to the headset.
With Apple’s ARKit image detection capabilities, this simulator can accurately track the virtual cockpit’s position. Players can not only retain existing physical flight simulation hardware peripherals but also seamlessly blend them with digital visuals inside the headset, providing an incredibly realistic flight training experience.
In terms of image quality and privacy, CloudXR technology also unlocks the “privacy-protecting gaze point streaming” feature. This technology offers low latency and high-resolution visuals while effectively protecting users’ eye-tracking data from leaks.
