Why is Netanyahu targeting Iran’s regime now?

CCTV News reports that on March 22, local time, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu stated in the southern city of Arad that Israel is responding to attacks from Iran, but not targeting civilians.

Netanyahu said that Israel’s goal is the current Iranian regime and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The Israeli military will directly strike the leaders of the Revolutionary Guard as well as their infrastructure and economic assets.

Iran claims to have used new tactics to target US and Israeli interests

On March 22, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran issued a statement announcing the launch of the 74th large-scale military operation, “Real Commitment 4.”

The statement said that this offensive employed pre-designed exercise plans, new tactics, and upgraded weapon systems, targeting US military facilities in West Asia and strategic locations in central and southern Israel. Iranian missiles and drones, including “Imad,” “Fatah,” and “Uprising,” heavily struck the US Sudan Prince Air Force Base, the US Fifth Fleet headquarters, and Kurdish armed groups’ positions. Meanwhile, military bases and security centers in Tel Aviv, Petah Tikva, Holon, and Ramat Gan were directly hit by heavy missiles such as “Qadr,” “Khaibar,” and “Khoramshahr-4” from the early morning of the 22nd, causing severe damage.

The statement indicated that with these new tactics and upgraded systems, the operation has thrown the US Central Command into strategic chaos and caused the collapse of multi-layered US and Israeli air defense systems in the region, severely disrupting the US military’s supply chain.

The statement emphasized that Iran had previously warned the US and Israel about the escalation of regional conflicts. The Iranian armed forces reaffirmed that if enemies attack Iran’s population centers or energy infrastructure, Iran will retaliate with “beyond expectations” measures.
