Insider: Trump approved action against Iran after phone call with Netanyahu
Sources familiar with the matter say that less than 48 hours before the United States and Israel jointly launched strikes against Iran, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu had a phone call with U.S. President Trump. The sources indicate that at the time of the call, Trump had not yet decided when or under what circumstances the U.S. would intervene. The sources reveal that Netanyahu suggested this might be the best opportunity to assassinate Iran’s Supreme Leader Khamenei and retaliate against Iran’s previous attempt to assassinate Trump, and that it might be difficult to find a better chance later. For weeks, U.S. military forces have been gathering in the region, leading many within the government to believe that Trump’s decision to act was already certain, with only the timing remaining.
