Green Rewards | Accumulated Points Can Be Converted to AlipayHK Points Starting May 4
Environmental Protection Department announces that the “Green Green Rewards” electronic points program will be further digitized. Starting May 4, it will be linked with the AlipayHK electronic payment platform. In addition to the existing Carbon Wallet and “Easy Rewards” platform, “Green Green Rewards” electronic points can be used at over 150,000 merchants across Hong Kong, making it more convenient and flexible for citizens to use recycling points in daily life and integrating recycling into everyday details.
An Environmental Protection Department spokesperson stated that the number of registered users for “Green Green Rewards” has exceeded 1.2 million, with about 90% of users already using the mobile app. After linking with the AlipayHK platform, points can be instantly converted into AlipayHK points, which can be used as cash or exchanged for coupons. At the same time, users can choose to redeem a 50-dollar supermarket physical cash voucher at any “Green Zone” facility using “Green Green Rewards” electronic points, making it easier for citizens to purchase daily necessities and bringing environmental rewards closer to daily needs.
As “Green Green Rewards” becomes more digital, the government will keep pace with the times and gradually reduce physical gift redemption points. Starting May 4, each of the 18 districts in Hong Kong will retain one physical gift redemption point at their respective “Green Zone” facilities. Residents of outlying islands (including Cheung Chau, Peng Chau, and Lamma Island) can continue to redeem physical gifts at mobile points on the islands.
The Environmental Protection Department will set up temporary service stations during peak recycling hours at major public housing estates, with staff providing on-site registration and app demonstrations for the elderly and those in need. Frontline staff at “Green Zone” facilities will also assist seniors in downloading and using the app, with visual guides and short videos available on-site.
Existing “Green Green Rewards” physical points card users who wish to retain the earning function must complete real-name registration by August 31 next year. Physical cards not registered with real names from May 4 this year will no longer earn new points, but existing points can still be redeemed for gifts until August 31 next year.
