Senate Approves Mullin as Homeland Security Chief
(MENAFN) The US Senate cast its vote on Monday to approve Sen. Markwayne Mullin as the new head of the Department of Homeland Security, succeeding Kristi Noem.
President Donald Trump’s nominee secured confirmation with a 54-45 tally.
Earlier in March, Trump selected Mullin to take over from Noem, who had been under internal examination after the deaths of American citizens Alex Pretti and Renee Nicole Good in Minnesota in January, involving agents from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Democratic lawmakers had been calling on Trump to dismiss Noem, and they also backed an impeachment measure against her.
During last week’s confirmation session, Oklahoma Republican Mullin vowed to dedicate significant effort to ensuring that the 280,000 employees across the DHS’s 22 agencies feel proud.
Lawmakers questioned Mullin regarding various events that occurred during Noem’s leadership.
Sen. Richard Blumenthal inquired whether ICE would keep entering residences without court-issued warrants.
Mullin responded: “We will not enter a home or place of business without a judicial warrant unless we are pursuing an individual."
