IDC Forecasts Global Smartphone Market to Shrink 13% This Year Due to Storage Chip Shortage Crisis

Research firm IDC states that due to an unprecedented shortage of memory chips, the global smartphone market will shrink by 12.9% in 2026, marking an “unprecedented crisis.” This latest forecast is significantly lower than previous estimates and is the latest assessment of the widespread memory chip shortage affecting the entire electronics industry. The demand for advanced storage to support artificial intelligence (AI) tasks has exhausted global supplies, and the tension is expected to persist for quite some time into next year. Currently, many smartphone manufacturers’ business models are under threat. (Jiemian News)
