Starcloud plans to launch a spacecraft later this year equipped with ASIC Bitcoin miners, aiming to test the feasibility of large-scale cryptocurrency mining in space. The company believes that utilizing solar energy and vacuum cooling can reduce energy and cooling costs in orbit. However, experts point out that there are many challenges, including hardware aging caused by radiation, the mass and cost required for launch and shielding, and maintenance difficulties. CEO Philip Johnston stated that their goal is to become the first company to mine Bitcoin in orbit, with the initial testing focusing on collecting performance data rather than immediate commercial operations.
