Japan's Liberal Democratic Party promotes expanding the scope of defense equipment exports

Japan’s Liberal Democratic Party Security Policy Investigation Committee held a meeting on the 25th and approved a draft proposal aimed at expanding the scope of defense equipment exports. The draft suggests abolishing the previous “five-category standard” that limited exports to rescue and transportation purposes, and in principle, allows the export of weapons with destructive capabilities such as fighter jets and escort ships. It also leaves room for exports to “countries recognized as currently engaged in combat.” The draft is expected to be submitted to the Japanese government as early as early March. (CCTV News)
