Cuban President Díaz-Canel on the 7th stated that the so-called “Summit of the Americas” held by U.S. President Trump in Florida that day is a “neo-colonial” meeting. Díaz-Canel said on social media that the purpose of the U.S. hosting this summit is to get some regional governments to accept U.S. military intervention in their internal affairs. This undermines the “Declaration to Make Latin America and the Caribbean a Zone of Peace” and the regional integration vision for Latin America. According to media reports, Trump at the summit called on Latin American countries to take tough measures against organized crime, saying the U.S. can provide support. Trump also claimed that Cuba is “at the last moments of its life.” (Xinhua)
