52,000 Indians Fly Home From Gulf As Airspace Gradually Reopens

More than 52,000 Indian nationals have returned from the Gulf region to India between March 1 and March 7, as airlines resumed limited operations following airspace disruptions triggered by the escalating crisis in West Asia.

In an update issued on Saturday, India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said 32,107 of those passengers travelled on Indian carriers, while the rest flew on foreign airlines.

The ministry said both Indian and international airlines were operating commercial as well as non-scheduled flights to facilitate the return of passengers who had been stranded in the region while in transit or on short visits.

The MEA added that more flights are being planned in the coming days as airspace across parts of the region gradually reopens.

To assist affected travellers and their families, the ministry has also set up a dedicated special control room to respond to queries and coordinate assistance.

Indian embassies and consulates across the region have also issued advisories and activated 24-hour helplines to address concerns arising from the ongoing situation.

The ministry advised Indian nationals in the region to follow the guidance of local authorities and stay updated through advisories issued by Indian diplomatic missions.

The safety and welfare of Indian nationals abroad is of utmost priority to the government," the ministry said, adding that the government continues to remain engaged with authorities across the region to assist those in need.
