ETHDenver 2026 Observation: Side Events Cut Short, AI Booming, Builders Searching for New Paradigms


The number of side events decreased from 668 in 2025 to approximately 215 during the 2026 conference (February 18–21), a 68% drop. Reasons include industry downturns, the upcoming Lunar New Year, reduced Asian participation, and the diversion of core audiences by events like the Lake House Manor WLFI Forum. Most public chains are shifting towards a few high-cost-performance side events. AI is the biggest highlight: Futurllama stage had the highest foot traffic; AI events like OpenClaw Claws Out Summit and Sentient Open AGI Summit stood out in scale. Project narratives are shifting towards AI applications like agents and chatbots. The builder-oriented approach remains unchanged: the last day is fully dedicated to BUIDLathon hackathon and builder workshops. Industry resilience is evident: scale has shrunk, excitement has waned, but builders are still seriously exploring very early-stage directions, with some projects already revealing outlines of feasible business models for the next phase.
