Uncertainty in U.S. tariff policies worries Japanese businesses
The Trump administration recently announced a 15% tariff increase on goods from all countries and regions. Japanese business circles expressed concerns, believing that the uncertainty of U.S. tariff policies will bring more investment risks. On the 24th, Yoshinobu Tsutsui, president of the Japan Business Federation, stated that the uncertainty of U.S. tariff policies puts Japanese companies in a very opaque situation, “reducing the predictability of the business environment and increasing investment judgment risks.”
On the same day, Akio Yamaguchi, executive director of the Japan Association of Corporate Executives, told Kyodo News that companies “have no choice but to wait and see.” He believes that companies should strengthen risk awareness and consider diversification of supply chains.
Japanese media reported that the drastic changes in U.S. tariff policies have caused Japanese businesspeople to complain and find it difficult to cope. On the 20th, the U.S. Supreme Court announced a ruling that the U.S. International Emergency Economic Powers Act did not authorize the president to impose tariffs on a large scale. Subsequently, Trump announced a 15% tariff increase on goods from all countries and regions, further increasing global trade uncertainty. (Xinhua)
