Everyone whining about the SAVE Act keeps saying the same thing:

“Millions of Americans can’t afford the ID to vote.”
Okay. Then pay for it.
We have taxes. We have subsidies. We have unlimited money for everything except fixing obvious problems.
If passports are too expensive, subsidize them for low-income Americans. The government could negotiate the price down to like $30 a person. Even if you covered tens of millions of people, that’s a one-time cost of a few billion dollars.
That’s pocket change compared to what we waste every year. $9B of fray in Minnesota would be like 2-3x more than what this would cost. It’s shekels.
So no, cost isn’t a real argument. It’s an excuse.
Every major country requires voter registration and ID. It’s basic election integrity.
We’re the richest country on Earth. Stop acting like we’re too broke or too incompetent to do what the rest of the world already does.
Anyone making this argument is basically calling Americans poor and dumb. Remember that.
