Shorting or longing altcoins? That's basically self-punishment. Liquidity is inherently a bottleneck. When a big player manipulates the market by pulling up or smashing down, your position could be liquidated instantly. I've seen it too many times—some trash coin skyrockets without any logic, someone thinks it's outrageous and opens a short position, only to be wiped out by a violent rebound and end up owing money. Once is enough to see such things happen.
In comparison, mainstream coins like $BTC and $ETH are more reliable choices. Their liquidity is stable, preventing those bizarre spike movements from scaring you out. At this stage, the risk-reward ratio of going long on mainstream coins is clearly more reasonable—market sentiment has already improved, and the difficulty of cost averaging is much lower than shorting altcoins.
Instead of betting on assets that could be wiped out at any moment, it's better to concentrate funds on more certain assets. Currently, it's a game of patience; those who are patient often earn what impatient people lose.
